School Day, What a Difference a Year Makes!

What a difference a year makes!  My daughter started 1st Grade without incidence.

I say that because last year 5 days before she was supposed to start Kindergarten, my oldest daughter broke her right (writing) arm.  It was a compound fracture (the bone came out, yuck!) and she dislocated her elbow.  That meant surgery and 3 days at the hospital.

I had to attend the meet the teacher night, alone.  It was not the way I had envisioned Kindergarten to be for her.  As parents, we always try to make everything perfect for our children.  This was not perfect.

She was amazing on her first day, although pretty tired when she got home.  She adapted, and learned to write with her left hand, and dresses (for my tom boy) were very helpful at bathroom time.

This year, everything was easy.  I am hoping it stays that way!

Do you have any similar experiences with your children?

She is adorable and what a trooper! Most kids would complain and give up, shows what an amazing parent you are!

P.s i am a tad curious as to how she attained such a drastic injury and I hope she wasnt too scared

Lynnette, I so appreciate your kind words! As a parent it is always hard to know what to do. I thought it would be better for her to start out with the other kids instead of missing a few days and feel left out.

My husband has just gone in the kitchen when he heard a scream from the living room. My girls were quiet watching cartoons when he left. She was jumping on the couch, and went off the back head first and stuck her arm out to catch her fall with all of her bodyweight.

Next time we know something happens like that again (Hope it never does!) we will just call an ambulence. We took her to the closest ER and they ended up taking her by ambulence to the Phoenix Children's Hospital. It is an amazing hospital- my daughter didn't want to leave!

Thanks again!
